My First Photo Pass

Went to Terminal 5 in NYC on Wednesday to shoot a show (thanks, Dave @ Bumpershine). Datarock opened for Ladytron. Pretty rocking show (for the electro-synthy-types, anyway). I’m a new Ladytron fan (even if their lighting kept challenging me to get a decent shot). Datarock brought their Fa Fas – and were much easier to shoot. The galleries show that pretty clearly (I think).

I did alright for a first go… tougher than I imagined. Lighting is changing every second, bass is pounding, and it gets crowded in the pit. It’s also predominantly dark and everything is flashing lights and vibration, then there’s the band bouncing around. Moving targets are hard to hit.

I might should’ve stayed at ISO 1600 or above, but I wanted to see how far I could push my a700. I was up against some Nikons, a Canon, and a Leica… Don’t know that I can do much against a Leica and some of the other high-end kits – but I’m happy with my haul. :P

Special thanks to Tristen and the person whose name I forgot at Filter Magazine and Derek (the tour manager) for helping me get my missing photo pass.

Now for the Pics:

Baby Thomas turns one!

Baby Thomas crawling in the grass

Went over to Tom and Pamela’s to share in the celebration of baby Thomas’ first birthday. Not to be outdone, Katharine was as adorable as ever.

Friends, food, and merriment abound. Shrimp, sausage, cake. Yum.

Right Here, Right Now

Right Here, Right Now

Went out to see the Young Dance Collective‘s production, Right Here, Right Now Saturday night. Pretty amazing to see a group so young with such enthusiasm and drive bring their art together. I was thoroughly impressed.

While the weather was hot and humid, the show was very, very cool. :)

Did I take any pics? Yep. Sure did.

Sad Little Pinata!

Maya had a reading at The Lucky Cat, and Sarah and Jacob had a housewarming party. Poetry, Parties, and PiƱatas… that is the life for me. :)

The Hunter Speaks

The Last Stand

Alison and the rest of the MFA program at Hunter had their final reading last week. It was nice to see (and hear) all of the people I’ve come to know over the last two years, and some I haven’t, give their words voice. It was my pleasure to share their night with them, and to take some pictures along the way.

It was touching to recognize the bonds formed with each other and their professors, and it was clearly a bittersweet coda for the many of them. I hope they take solace in the idea that nothing ever really ends, and that they can find ways to bring those bonds with them as they move beyond the current horizon.

I also built a slide show over at Empressr:
